As a California native, Kelsy was raised by principles reflected in the eight limb path and naturally discovered the asana practice at a very young age. Her passion for the yoga lifestyle was sealed while in college where she studied with her very first “Teacher” rooted in the Hatha traditions. Yoga provided her a profound recovery after a major surgery and mindfulness and meditation opened her eyes to the amazing ability to heal using the mind-body connection. Kelsy’s teaching platform draws from over 20 years of study and experience in Medical Management, Holistic Health, Energy Medicine, Classical Yoga, MBSR and Meditation, Health Coaching and a multitude of Bodyways. Her passion remains focused on serving the members of our military, veterans, providers/caregivers and the severely underserved populations. Kelsy is the Founding Director of Guiding Wellness Institute, 200 RYT, Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, and Holistic Life Coach. A proud member of the American Holistic Health Association, International Association of Yoga Therapists and Yoga Alliance.

After being a professional educator for over two decades, Beth decided to unite her love of teaching with her passion for the ancient and life changing practice of yoga. Drawn to yoga by a debilitating and chronic back condition Beth discovered, first hand, the healing power of yoga. Beth is an experienced, registered yoga teacher and is also a Warriors at Ease trained yoga and meditation teacher, dedicated to bringing the healing power of trauma sensitive yoga and meditation to our military community. Beth is a dedicated practitioner and teacher and she continues to expand and cultivate her own practice by studying with teachers and mentors around the country. She enjoys a variety of yoga disciplines but is particularly drawn to Vinyasa, enjoying the strengthening, empowering, and centering aspects of linking breath to movement. Beth teaches a wide variety of breath and alignment focused classes that are mindfully designed to meet the unique needs of all of her students. Beth hopes to share the life enhancing power of yoga with as many people as possible, helping them find the strength and the light that already exists inside them.  Beth is the founder and director of Life Moves Yoga, LLC.

Susan Alden is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and served for six years as an active duty Army logistics officer in the 82nd Airborne and 3rd Infantry Divisions.  For 18 years, Susan has been teaching both yoga and meditation within the military community, increasing awareness about PTSD, TBI, and combat stress and promoting complementary medicine on military bases across the country.  As founder of Ola Lokahi, Susan offers retreats grounded in indigenous practices and principles that invite visionary leaders in the military and the civilian sector to come together and connect with a deeper sense of peace and profound purpose.

Suffering from debilitating migraines Lisa discovered yoga in her early forties and consistent practice greatly reduced her migraine attacks,

Yoga helped her deal with the hectic life of running to framing stores. She feels she truly stepped onto a path of bliss when she began teacher training at the The Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lenox, MA>

In 2001 she completed the 500-hour professional level teacher training program. Ashe she likes to say, “That is when my dharma met my karma. I knew this was my calling and I have to share it with everyone I meet.” Since selling her framing business, Lisa balances her days teaching yoga at her studio, Breathing Space, in Fayetteville, NC, playing in her art room and laughing with her friends.

She leads retreats as often as she can. Her inner joy brings smiles to anyone who meets her. Lisa lives a blissful existence with her fabulously understanding husband, Dean.

 

Dr. Rhiannon Hutton

As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Master of Eastern Medicine, and licensed acupuncturist, Dr. Hutton specializes in empowering busy people with the tools for total wellness – so that they don’t have to be a patient for life. She blends the newest research based posture therapy with ancient proven techniques in Meridian Exercise Therapy. She also compounds individualized herbal formulas for each of her patients ensuring treatment of not only the symptoms but the underlying condition as well.

Dr. Rhi’s cases have been peer-review published and appear in Advances in Mind Body Medicine, available on PubMed. She was her class Valedictorian, and is co-author of a sustainable health cookbook on Amazon calledThe Happy Tummy Cookbook: Because A Happy Tummy Means A Happy Body. Additionally, she has worked in over 32 countries and, with the help of her knowledge of the body, has jogged across the Mojave desert, 500 miles in 30 days.

Yoga Teacher Training Module Details

Module 1: Warriors At Ease Level II

Module Description:
Learn to safely and effectively teach trauma-sensitive, evidenced-based yoga and meditation to service members, veterans, and their families. Gain a deeper understanding of military culture, combat-related stress, and military sexual trauma, and how it may affect a yoga student.

You learn and practice:
– Self-Care techniques and ways to reduce anxiety and depression
– Asana sequence protocols and modifications for adaptive yoga (chair and restorative yoga) for war-related trauma or injury, post-traumatic stress, or those with amputations or limited mobility
– Therapeutic approaches for developing resiliency, recovery, and prevention of injuries
– Ways to integrate trauma-sensitive guidelines and precautions for specific populations into your own yoga teaching style
– How to begin a yoga class in a military or veteran community, or in clinical settings such as a hospital or clinic.

This training is open only to certified yoga teachers who have completed the Warriors at Ease Level 1 Teacher Training (available through Yoga International). Skills taught in this training are applicable to military and veteran populations, as well as first responders, aid workers, and other populations where similar health conditions exist.

Module 3: Advanced Energy Anatomy, Eastern Medicine & Building a Holistic Yoga Practice

Module Description:
Discover the deeper meaning and function behind the Chakra’s and Nadi’s by exploring the Meridians, Eastern Medicine practices and the Archetypal patterns of these energy centers. Using the Science of Prana to unlock a deeper understanding of the experiences on the mat and why the practice benefits and balances our overall health, mindset and relational lifestyle. This immersion course is intended to deepen your experience of the energy spirals for your own personal practice and to better see the channels unlock and clear in your students practice, strengthening your ability to affirm, foster and design care plans for your groups and individuals. Using the foundations of Ayurveda, Asana, pranayama and concentration, we will bring the habitual practice of yoga back to life and enjoy the connection of restored prana with the moments within life!

Module 2: Advance the Asana: Therapeutic and Adaptive Alignment, Modifications, Sequencing and Assisting

Module Description:
This power packed weekend is designed to inspire your passion for the therapeutic function of the Asana practice. Using Structural Integration of Anatomy to advance your sequencing and learn how to theme a class using complementary opposites and Kosha integration. Enjoy the balance of theory and practice as we explore stillness in motion and tension release, defining the edge with Theory in Yin, Restorative and alignment based components. This Advanced Therapeutic curriculum also builds awareness and prepares you to work confidently with special populations like military and first responders while integrating Trauma Sensitive and Adaptive techniques to serve students with limb loss, head injury and chronic conditions.

Module 4: Advanced History and Philosophy

Module Description:
This Advanced study course of Yoga Philosophy and History will take the teacher beyond the confines of rote memorization and expression to a deep, physical understanding of how yoga came to be what it is today and a vision of how your practice and teachings will shape it in the future.

Yoga is a path of transformation, for the practitioner and teacher, always evolving and adapting to present needs while staying grounded in its roots of spirituality, devotion and therapy!

In this course, you will learn to incorporate the roots of yoga into your teachings, through physical and energetic experiences. Each day there will be time for a traditional Hatha practice, advanced meditation experience and a strong foundation in pranayama. Along with co-active listening, sharing and story telling these activities will give you the tools to add stories, myths and sutras into your teachings easily and with grace. These advanced techniques will broaden your ability to connect with your students on a deeper level and challenge you own personal practice to grow.

Level I: Basic iRest® Training

iRest Yoga Nidra has been developed over the past twenty-six years by Richard Miller, PhD, a clinical psychologist, author, researcher and yogic scholar, and is uniquely suitable for a Western audience. Extensive research has shown that iRest effectively supports the healing process across a broad range of populations. Currently, there are iRest programs in military hospitals across the U.S., as well as in correctional facilities, hospices, clinics, schools, and organizations supporting personal growth and well-being. In June of 2010, iRest was endorsed by the US Army Surgeon General and Defense Centers of Excellence as a complementary and alternative medicine (CAM).
