What is a RYS?

A Registered Yoga School (RYS) is a designation given by Yoga Alliance to schools approved to offer 200 and 300 RYT programs. Graduates from an RYS are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

What is the difference between a CYT and an RYT? A CYT is a certified yoga teacher, a RYT is a registered yoga teacher. To become an RYT, you would have to complete a YTT Program approved by Yoga Alliance and then register with Yoga Alliance to practice as a registered yoga teacher. All 500 hour RYT designations require successful completion of a 200 Hour RYT program, followed by a 300 Hour RYT program.

How do I register as a Yoga Therapist? In 2016, Yoga Alliance decided that it would no longer recognize Yoga Therapy; so, if you are interested in registering as a Yoga Therapist, you will need to contact The International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) at https://iayt.site-ym.com . For all questions about Yoga Therapy, please refer to IAYT.

How many hours of yoga do I have to teach before I can graduate?

You will graduate with a Certificate of Completion when all of the requirements of the program are met however, Yoga Alliance will not grant you a 500RYT designation until you have taught a specific amount of hours AND registered as a 200 hour RYT. Please visit https://www.yogaalliance.org for more details about credentialing.

Do I need to be teaching yoga in order to participate in the 300 hour training?

Many of our students choose to continue training right after completing their 200 hour program; so, it is not a requirement to be actively teaching; however, there will be a teaching requirement. So, we recommend you have a demographic to apply the tools you are learning.

Please be aware for the Certification Requirements set by Yoga Alliance as you need to teach a specific amount of hours in addition to completing this course in order to receive your 500 RYT designation. Please visit https://www.yogaalliance.org for more information about credentialing.
