Meet Lorna, RYT-200 Yoga Instructor, WAET, iRest Level 1 and 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Student!

“I’m Lumbee, the largest Native American tribe east of the Mississippi. I am a military family member: my father served in Army & Reserves, brother was 2nd Lieutenant Marine.’

‘My husband Patrick and I live in Fayetteville with our two children. I earned a Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance) and Masters of Business Administration from UNC Pembroke. In May 2022, I will graduate from UNC Wilmington with a Master of Arts in Integrated Marketing Communication.’

‘My work spans nearly 25 years as a vocalist in Hawaii and the western Caribbean; higher education; business owner/operator for events, design and retail; yoga and meditation instruction. I am committed to wellness; diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) advocacy; education; and Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC). Currently, I serve as state chair for North Carolina Humanities and Director for NC Center for Nonprofits.’

‘I began practicing yoga in the early 2000’s as an alternative to training in the boxing ring. In 2017, I wanted to deepen my yoga practice and create a balanced lifestyle.’

‘After researching programs, I was drawn to the holistic and trauma sensitive based philosophy at Guiding Wellness.’

‘The YTT 200 program was more rewarding and growth-filled than I had anticipated. I am grateful for the training that provided awareness far beyond yoga’s asana or physical practice to include the eight limbs of yoga, while honing more discipline and life balancing skills.’

‘I earned my RYT-200 certification, iREST Level 1 meditation, and am completing the final module of the 300 hour yoga Teacher Training at Guiding Wellness. I earned stand up paddle board yoga certification at Longwave Yoga. Each week, I get the humbling and rewarding opportunity to serve Fayetteville’s military community while teaching yoga and iREST at GWI.”
